Ms. Destiny Marie Mendez Poem

Moon Phase:ย Waning Gibbous
Sun Phase:ย  Spring

Greetings, People living in prison are often reduced to their worst moments and rendered invisible to the outside world. Yet across prison walls, people continue to create โ€” writing, reflecting, grieving, hoping, and attempting to live with purpose.

Poetry written during incarceration carries a particular weight. It speaks from isolation, distance from loved ones, the passage of time, and the search for dignity inside systems built on punishment. In addition to being personal expression; these poems are acts of survival and testimony.

The poems that follow, โ€œA Cold Novemberโ€ and โ€œBehind My Cage,โ€ were written by Ms. Destiny Marie Mendez, an incarcerated writer whose work explores loneliness, accountability, faith, and longing for connection. Sharing incarcerated voices is an act of witness & solidarity โ€” an affirmation of being.
