Join us in our farewell to Maio Buenafe (they/she), who holds the record for our longest Council member. We are so grateful for all their wellness tools and reminders! While serving on the Council Maio supported us in curating our on and offboarding protocols.

We are actively courting a new Council member, so stay tuned for that introduction.
Maio is a bilingual immigrant, genderqueer, multi-ethnic Indigenous Filipinx (Ifugao, Itneg, Tagalog, Ilukung, Fujian Chinese) who has lived most of their life between the ‘Philippines’ and ‘California’. She is a scholar, educator, researcher, mentor, facilitator, community organizer, food and cultural events experience curator, and community consultant.
Who will be thoroughly missed! And we are full of excitement to promote their new organization, The Unlearning Community School.
There first event is The Unlearning Series: Poetry As Transmutation Device on Friday Sept 27 from 6-8pm (Pacific) via Zoom (register here: bit.ly/UCSpoetry).
A central belief in the Unlearning Community School is in the power of storytelling, spoken word poetry, and interactive critical discourse to confront and transmute personal and collective trauma towards healing and liberation. This first event in this virtual series will embody this belief and practice specifically around immigration experiences, colonial violence, and belonging.
