We are thinking about ways to communicate with people who are different, or communicate differently, from us. When the intention is to communicate, our communication is not necessarily about being “right” or “wrong.” The focus here is about exploring how we can share our story with people in a way that reflects them or in a way that they can empathize with. This can include using the many communication tools each of us carries with us, and approaching the story and problem-solving from different, accessible angles.

Starting considerations
- identify common goals
- focus on community led and grassroots solutions
- use their examples
- focus on oppressor’s/harm-creator’s behaviour & its impact
- shared beliefs
- learning to apologize and/or forgive (including self)
Body/Language Communication
- Many of these present in community
- Each being embodies a few
- Takes patience and practice to figure out how folks communicate
- Can include:
- noises, words, sounds, singing
- signing, gestures
- telepathy – transmission of thoughts and ideas from one mind to another
- touch – sensory of skin to skin contact
- games & play – use of public space to communicate
- visibly – in poem or art form
- spontaneous
- gardening – ways treat Nature
- whimsy
This post is an invitation to explore the different ways you communicate, how you find joy communicating, communication methods or styles that are challenging for you to connect with, and discovering communication methods or styles that you may not have considered before.
